Hadrian’s Wall – Northumberland

On the 27th July 2013…

In July we also visited Hadrian’s Wall. The wall was a defensive fortification in Roman Britain. It was built in AD 122, during the rule of emperor Hadrian. The wall was the most heavily fortified border in the Empire.

We also visited two forts alongside Hadrian’s wall: Roman Vindolanda and Housesteads, where we could walk among archaeological excavations of both forts.

The Romans were so far ahead of their time, it was amazing to see the foundation of so many houses, granaries, house baths and toilets, kitchen and ovens and thousands of artifacts including written tablets with birthday invitations and several other things.
